COMPASS Across Settings (CAST) is an intervention designed to improve transition outcomes for autistic students as they prepare to leave high school. Built on more than 20 years of COMPASS research, CAST focuses on creating meaningful, individualized goals that support students as they move toward adulthood.

Together, the team identifies personalized transition goals and develops strategies to support progress across home, school, and community settings.

From Goal Setting to Goal Attainment

Transition services are an important part of the Individualized Education Program (IEP), but many autistic students continue to experience challenges achieving positive outcomes after high school.

CAST builds on existing evidence-based practices by adding ongoing coaching and implementation support for students, caregivers, educators, and employment specialists. This helps teams move beyond simply identifying goals to putting plans into action and working toward measurable progress.

About the CAST Study

Our team is currently in the final year of the CAST research study, which is focused on developing and testing the intervention’s ability to strengthen goal-setting and goal-attainment skills for autistic youth.
